Dengan kata lain, sedimen merupakan kumpulan partikel padat yang terakumulasi di dalam tanah bumi.<\/p>\n<p> Sedimen disebabkan oleh fenomena alam seperti rusaknya atau terkikisnya batuan, kemudian partikel-partikel tersebut terbawa oleh aksi angin atau air, misalnya dengan curah hujan meteorologi atau melalui sirkulasi air permukaan atau bawah tanah. Dengan kata lain, sedimentologi Menganalisis proses pembentukan, pengangkutan dan pengendapan material yang terakumulasi dalam bentuk sedimen.<\/p>\n<p> Secara khusus, sedimentologi tidak hanya berfokus pada pemeriksaan sedimen, tetapi juga mempelajari batuan sedimen, yaitu batuan yang terbentuk dari akumulasi sedimen.<\/p>\n<p> Sedimentologi lahir pada akhir abad ke-19 dan lebih tepatnya nama sedimentologi dikemukakan oleh Coslett Herbert Waddell pada tahun 1932.
